New campaign to reduce fly-tipping
Cornwall Council is developing a new campaign focused on reducing fly-tipping across Cornwall, and they would like to hear from community organisations and local stakeholders about the issues they're seeing on the ground.
The council already uses a range of information to understand where problems occur, including reports of fly-tipping, clearance data and intelligence gathered by officers working across Cornwall. However, local knowledge and community experience can provide valuable context that isn't always captured in official data. Communities often see issues developing before they are formally reported and can provide insight into local causes, impacts and trends that may not be reflected in our datasets.
The council is particularly interested in hearing about:
- Areas where fly-tipping or littering is a persistent problem
- Locations that may be under-reported but are causing concern locally
- Any patterns or trends you've noticed over time
- The types of waste commonly found
- Any factors that you feel contribute to issues in your area
- The impact these issues have on the local area or community
- Examples of successful local initiatives, interventions or community-led approaches
To help them focus on the locations having the greatest impact, the council would be grateful if up to three hotspot areas that you feel are most important for them to be aware of are identified.
The information you share will help the council build a fuller picture of the challenges communities are facing and will be used alongside existing council data to inform the development of future communications, engagement activity and potential interventions.
As part of this work, the council may explore opportunities to trial approaches in a small number of locations. We're still in the early stages of developing the campaign and are currently gathering evidence and local insight.
